From simple-arc payment to null trace images

Distinct points of a connected open subset of a locally connected metric continuum can be joined there by a simple arc. The arc-existence hypothesis is the local arcwise-connectedness theorem used by Lorimer (1981), Locally compact Hjelmslev planes and rings, proof of Lemma 3.2, pp. 1002–1003, displayed (*), DOI 10.4153/CJM-1981-077-5. The null-image criterion derives the measure-theoretic conclusion from this topological hypothesis and the simple-arc payment inequality.
