L4DEL explanations are a separate layer. They do not change the Lean source. Intuition is explanatory prose; numbered items are a reading path; sources link the wording back to evidence.

The collection builds on the mathematics community's accumulated problems, results, language, and formal libraries; each manuscript's BibTeX and bibliography are the authority for individual scholarly credit.

  1. def OAI.KaplanskyCounterexample.MainClaim Challenge statement: Failure of direct finiteness in characteristic 2 line 7

    L4DEL explanation

    a finite field K of characteristic two, a finitely presented group G

    A well-known conjecture of Kaplansky states that for any group G and any field K the group ring KG is directly finite

    A group algebra over a finite field of characteristic 2, of a finitely generated group, can contain elements a, b with a*b = 1 but b*a different from 1.

    1. The claim has the form: there are a finite field K with CharP K 2, a finitely generated group G, and a, b in MonoidAlgebra K G.
    2. Those satisfy a * b = 1 and b * a != 1.
    3. This Lean abstraction asks only for finite generation; the manuscript's stronger finitely presented, odd-torsion construction supplies such a witness but is not repeated in MainClaim's type.

  2. theorem OAI.KaplanskyCounterexample.main_theorem Challenge statement: Main theorem of the Kaplansky counterexample sorry line 12

    L4DEL explanation

    The field, group, and finite sums are specified by a terminating prescription

    States that MainClaim holds; the challenge file leaves the proof as sorry.

    1. The theorem is just MainClaim, a statement about one-sided inverses in a group algebra.
    2. Expanding MainClaim reveals existential witnesses K, G, a, and b; main_theorem introduces no new hypotheses or weaker replacement conclusion.
    3. The pinned manuscript gives the stronger concrete construction and a terminating prescription, while this comparator target checks the compact existential proposition.
